A letter to mom, Oyewumi Adegbite
I once knew a perfect woman who sacrificed her life for mine.
More than a decade ago you took a step into the glorious heaven.
I can imagine the day you walked the streets of gold jubilating you escaped the garment that caused you pain.
The beast - Leukemia stripped you away causing great grief, which was once my identity.
But as I began to process through its stages and finally accepted there won’t be any physical interactions between us,
I found solace in the memories we captured and the promise of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
I am now at peace and using the heartache as a channel of hope.
Hope to the next person who shares the same predicament as mine.
Your departure has given birth to a mission here on this side of paradise, you Know
Your greatest fear was to leave Anj and I to the cares of another human.
But guess what, we are just fine and we gained such a fabulous human to call mom.
I look forward to the day where we are reunited at heaven’s gate.
Our bodies will be renewed and our eternal chorus will be Glory Glory Glory in the highest.
Rest on Oyewumi Christiana, you’ve fought the good fight of faith.
And now it's my turn to keep the oil in my lamp burning and pass the baton to my generation.
